Review
Here’s the action-packed sequel to Raising Atlantis (2005) and The Atlantis Prophecy (2008). Conrad Yeats is an astroarchaeologist—there really is such a thing—who is trying to prove the historical existence of the mythical continent Atlantis. His quest has been hindered by the fact that, if Atlantis exists, it’s located under frigid Antarctica, not the balmy Mediterranean, and by the fact that an obscenely powerful group of global conspirators will stop at nothing to keep Yeats from uncovering Atlantis’ long-buried secrets. This is an extremely fast-paced novel—after a very few chapters, Conrad already has narrowly escaped a sunken Nazi submarine, which was blown up by an ancient device that can turn water into fire—but the author does slow down from time to time to develop his characters and explain some of the historical context (such as Hitler’s interest in Atlantis). An exciting adventure novel very much in the James Rollins and Matthew Reilly mold. -- Pitt, David (Reviewed 08-01-2009) (Booklist, vol 105, number 22, p36)
